How to Get There

For those departing from Belo Horizonte, access to these natural paradises is quick and well-signposted, varying according to your chosen destination:

• To Serra do Cipó (Approx. 100 km - 1h45 drive): Departing from BH, follow highway MG-010 passing through Vespasiano and Lagoa Santa. The road is paved up to the National Park entrance. The trail to Cachoeira da Farofa is flat (about 8 km on foot or by bike), considered easy to moderate. For Cachoeira Grande, car access is direct, and the internal walk is just a few minutes on a paved trail.
• To Rio Acima (Approx. 40 km - 1h10 drive): Take BR-040 towards Rio de Janeiro and, shortly after passing the Nova Lima interchange, access the municipal road towards Raposos/Rio Acima. The internal roads leading to the waterfalls (like Chica Dona) are unpaved. Caution is recommended during rainy seasons, although regular cars can usually navigate them most of the year. The walking trail to Chica Dona is short (less than 15 minutes).
• To Lapinha da Serra (Approx. 140 km - 2h45 drive): Also follow MG-010, passing the main entrance to Serra do Cipó and continuing to Santana do Riacho. From there, take an unpaved dirt road for about 12 km to the village of Lapinha. Regular vehicles can manage well during the dry season, but during heavy rains, a higher clearance or 4x4 vehicle will make the journey easier. The trail to Cachoeira do Lajeado is about 6 km (one way) and has a moderate difficulty level; appropriate footwear and good hydration are recommended.
